When I really like something to eat, I often say “Ummm Boy, Almond Joy!”
To be clear, I don’t just repeat the words “ummm boy, almond joy.” No, I put some real enthusiasm and expression into my declaration. I also say it with some real inflection. I draw out the “Ummmmm” quite a bit. I raise my voice for the word, Boy. And for the word, Joy. In addition, I get my hands involved. I usually rub my tummy in a big wide circle with one of my hands. Also I get my face involved. I usually squint when I say “ummmm boy” and close my eyes and don’t open them until I say “joy”.
Bottom line, I am sure that I am expending some calories when I say “ummm boy, almond joy.”
Where did this all come from, you may ask.
I think this stems from my fondness of Almond Joy candy bars since childhood.
I love Almond Joy candy bars!
I am not sure exactly why. It could be just the milk chocolate covering. Or it could be the two whole almonds on each bar. Or it could be the shredded coconut inside the bar. Or it could be the combination of all three.
I just literally smack my lips after having a bite of an Almond Joy bar.
I don’t know about you, but I savor them as I eat them. I don’t put the 2+” bar in my mouth whole. Heck no. I take a small bite out of each bar. Savor it. then take another bite out of the bar. I usually get two to three bites per bar.
Remember you get two bars per package. In fact, now you can get 4 bars per package in the king size package on sale at many, many places.
My mouth is watering just thinking about an Almond Joy candy bar.
Some facts may be of interest to you. the bars are gluten free, made by the Hershey Company located in Hershey PA. each bar has 110 calories, and for those of us on the Keto diet it unfortunately has 13 grams of carbs offset by 1 gram of dietary fiber for a net carb count of 12 grams. My daily limit on carbs is supposed to be 25 carbs. So, you can see, that having 4 Almond Joy bars (in the king size packet) can do some real damage to my daily carb count goals, leaving me with double what I should be doing for the entire day!
A bar only has 1 gram of protein, and has 10 grams of sugar. All, not ideal to say the least. However it does provide some fiber and some unsaturated fat, which are good for you. But, bottom line, it tastes soooooooooooooooo good!
What is a guy supposed to do.
Shop keepers must know that I love Almond Joys. You know how I can tell? When I go to check out of a 7-11, or gas station mini mart, grocery store or airport shop, I swear that right to the left of every check out stand sits an array of candy. The one candy that is the closest to the check out stand, more often than not, is an Almond Joy. Next time you are in such a store, check this out and see if you agree.
When I am checking out to purchase a newspaper or bottle of water, my left hand instinctively moves to the left and down, and grabs hold of a king size Almond Joy candy. This happens almost automatically. Almost robotically.
The move with my left hand is not jerky or halting. It is smooth and almost beautiful in the arc that it takes to find the candy bar, seize it and bring it closer to me. It is almost rhythmic.
Finally, let me share with you that, for some reason, my grandchild Henry, who is 3 and 1/2 years old, really gets a charge out of saying “Ummmm boy, almond joy!”. When we are together, and we both like something that we are eating, we will look at each other, take our right hand, start rubbing our tummy, as we in unison say “Ummmmm boy, almond joy!”. During which time we squeeze our eyes shut. Just as we say “joy!” we open our eyes and look at each other with the huge smiles, much laughter and lots of JOY.
How can you not like Almond Joy?
Oh my. I do love Almond Joy. I actually only allow myself to buy the minis during Halloween and usually have a bag gone before the trick or treaters arrive.
Neil, sounds like you need to develop a little self control. 😋
