Who knew that making ice cream could be so easy?
I sure did not until this past week when I signed up for a class in ice cream making.
I signed up ostensibly for the benefit of my 4 year old grandson Henry, but the reality is that I love ice cream and I really wanted to learn how to make it too.
I was shocked at how simple it is to make.
First, you need to have the right ingredients. Whole milk (1 cup), not 2%. White sugar (6 tablespoons), crucial. Heavy cream (1 cup), not half and half. A pinch of salt and ½ tablespoon of vanilla.
These are the ingredients needed for plain old vanilla ice cream. If you want something more exotic, you need to add a few other fillings.
My favorite ice cream by far is mint chocolate chip. So that means having available chocolate chips and mint.
I learned that fresh mint just pulled from the garden is out of this world. I have consumed mint chocolate chip ice cream for years in many different locations and never, ever have I tasted mint like this. Fresh mint that we chopped up, sliced and diced was so pungent, so strong that it was to die for.
So, Henry, with an occasional assist from Gramps, added chocolate chips and freshly cut mint to the mixture.
The second thing you need to make ice cream is an ice cream machine. I had never seen one before. We dumped our mixture into the machine and let it churn for 20 minutes. More specifically, we added the chips and mint after 10 minutes of churning.
You can eat your ice cream now or scoop your ice cream into a container and set it in the freezer overnight.
Wallah!! Amazing!! At the end of 20 minutes we had ice cream. We had mint chocolate chip ice cream! Holy cow!! Unbelievable!!
Once again, this was all done for the benefit of my grandson, Henry.
Thank goodness for my grandson Henry. He is allowing me to be a kid once again.
I’ve been an ice cream fanatic ever since we hand churned our own on the farm. Still haven’t found the same taste anywhere!
Not being familiar with the term “wallah”, I googled it. They claim it is a Hindi word meaning “a native of a specific place” so I could not figure out your connotation then “voi-la” it cane to me!
Lick on my friend.
I envy Henry!
Well not cane , came! Must have had sugar on the brain thinking about that delicious ice cream!
These photos capture it perfectly!! I can almost taste that lusciously creamy concoction. Ahhhh!! You’ll certainly need to get a mint plant to grow at your new casita home!!!
Danger ahead! Danger ahead! Either that or a lot more Pickleball and hiking in your future too Neil…the good stuff is addictive!
